Nina Ridder

Senior Climate Advisor at Suncorp Australia

Dr Nina Ridder is the Senior Climate Advisor at Suncorp Australia. Originally from Berlin, Germany, she holds a master in Physics from the Technische Universität Berlin and a PhD in Climate Science from the University of New South Wales. After completing her PhD in 2014, Nina moved on to hold postdoctoral positions at the European Space Agency and the Koninklijk Nederlands Meteorologisch Instituut (KNMI) where she started her work on compound events by analysing the co-occurrence of high storm surge and heavy precipitation affecting the Dutch coast. In 2019 Nina returned to the University of New South Wales to continue her work on multivariate and compounding events on the global scale as part of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes. She has published several highly cited papers in leading scientific journals and is widely recognised as one of the leading experts in the field of compound event research. In December 2022 Nina started her position at Suncorp where she is implementing state-of-the-art science into the insurance sector and facilitates lasting collaborations between research and the insurance industry to make Australia more resilient toward natural disasters.
